Hip Resistance Band for Glutes, Hips and Thighs

This hip resistance band is a wide knitted fabric loop for glute, hip and thigh exercises, for women and men who train at home, at the gym or alongside yoga and pilates. Slip it on just above your knees or around your thighs, and every squat, bridge and side step makes the muscles around your hips work harder.

Fabric bands are wider and softer than thin rubber loops, so they sit flatter on the legs and are less likely to roll into a cord. The band adds resistance to the moves that build your glutes; the results come from doing those moves regularly.

Five moves to try

1. 1Glute bridge: lie on your back with the band above your knees, press your knees out slightly and lift your hips.
2. 2Banded squat: keep your knees pressing out against the band as you sit back and stand up.
3. 3Side steps: in a half squat, take ten small steps to one side, then ten back.
4. 4Donkey kick: on hands and knees, push one foot up towards the ceiling, then swap legs.
5. 5Clamshell: lie on your side with your knees bent and open the top knee against the band.

Start with 10–15 slow repetitions of each, and rest between rounds.

Looking after it

• Hand wash it in cool water with a little mild soap and dry it in the shade.
• Keep it away from sharp nails, rings and rough floors.
• Use it for leg and hip work; it isn’t made to be stretched over the shoulders.

Tip: if the hip resistance band slides down during squats, move it a little higher on your thighs and keep pushing your knees out.
